About
Dermatology is the medical specialty dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails.
As the body’s largest organ, the skin is susceptible to a wide range of concerns—from minor aesthetic issues and inflammatory conditions to complex diseases, including skin cancers often associated with prolonged sun exposure.
At the German Medical Institute, our Department of Dermatology is staffed by a team of experienced dermatologists with expertise across various subspecialties. We offer comprehensive consultations, as well as medical, interventional, and surgical therapies tailored to each patient’s unique needs.
Equipped with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, our department is committed to providing early and accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and continuous care for a broad spectrum of dermatological conditions.
On our website, you will find detailed information about common skin disorders, the range of services we provide, the equipment we use, and the members of our medical team.
We welcome you to the Department of Dermatology at the German Medical Institute.

Our Services and Equipment
Aesthetic Treatments
Aesthetic dermatology is a specialized branch of dermatology focused on preserving, enhancing, and restoring the health and appearance of the skin through medically approved treatments. Skin appearance may be affected by a variety of intrinsic and extrinsic factors, including aging, sun exposure, smoking, and environmental pollutants.
At the German Medical Institute, all aesthetic treatments are performed by our experienced dermatologists or by trained healthcare professionals working under their close supervision. We are committed to offering evidence-based therapies that meet the highest standards of safety and efficacy.
Our range of aesthetic services includes:
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy and microneedling for collagen induction and skin rejuvenation
Advanced injectable treatments targeting fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss
Non-surgical treatments for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
Laser and energy-based technologies for skin tone and texture improvement
Each patient undergoes a thorough consultation and facial aesthetic assessment, during which our specialists identify areas where the skin’s appearance can be restored or enhanced through minimally invasive approaches. Your personal goals and preferences are central to our planning process, and we will work closely with you to develop a tailored treatment plan that aligns with your expectations.
Electrosurgery
In electrosurgery, electric current is applied directly onto an abnormal skin growth that will be destroyed. This is applied through a pencil-like hand-held device. Anesthetic cream is initially applied to the skin which makes this fast and simple procedure painless. Several types of skin lesions can be effectively treated with this method by your experienced dermatologist.
Biopsies and Minor surgery
After examining your skin, your dermatologist may suggest a biopsy to further evaluate your skin condition. During a skin biopsy a small sample of your skin is collected, under local anesthetic, and then analyzed in our laboratory. This helps clarify the diagnosis in ambiguous skin conditions and rashes but also in moles and lesions that are clinically suspicious. If a mole is found to be clinically suspicious for cancer, it is usually removed as a whole, through minor surgery. At the GMI, our surgical dermatologist removes and repairs the skin under local anesthetic. The skin is closed with sutures and a dressing is applied. The mole is sent for analysis and your dermatologist will then explain the results during a consultation. The GMI has a state-of-the-art histopathology laboratory where samples are sent for analysis.
Dermoscopy and Mole Screening
A dermatoscope is a handheld tool that can magnify skin lesions up to 10 times. It is key in dermatology as it helps the dermatologist assess the color and structure of a mole or a skin lesion, and in experienced hands it can help in the early diagnosis of melanoma and other skin cancers. During mole screening, the dermatologist will perform a thorough skin examination, assessing all moles and lesions on your skin and identify any suspicious lesions that may require further evaluation or removal.
Laser Treatments
At our department we offer different types of laser systems including the latest picosecond technology laser. This can treat skin imperfections such as dyschromia, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and is also the most effective modality to remove tattoos of different colors. It is also used for aesthetic purposes such as non-ablative scar improvement and skin rejuvenation. It can be used in all skin types with minimal contra-indications.
Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment where superficial skin lesions are frozen using liquid nitrogen. Several types of superficial lesions (benign, pre-malignant or even superficial skin cancers) can be treated with this method. The dermatologist applies the cryotherapy in the office setting and no anesthesia is required. The treated area usually becomes red, sometimes forms a small blister that then scabs and heals on its own with minimal attention. It is a fast, simple, and safe procedure readily used by experienced dermatologists.
Mole Mapping
At our department we offer a state-of-the-art, total body photography, digital dermoscopy and artificial intelligence mole mapping tool, which not only photographs and records all your moles but also identifies suspicious, new, and changed moles quickly and accurately. This tool scans and takes a picture of all your moles and recognizes those that 'stand-out' and need further assessment. All mole pictures can be magnified, and the characteristics of each mole can be evaluated. Furthermore, these pictures can be saved and compared to new ones taken on your next visit, to identify whether you have any new moles or if any of your existing moles have changed. Mole mapping is particularly useful for monitoring people with several moles, people with a personal or family history of melanoma, or for anyone who wants a detailed mole assessment with photographic documentation.
Consultations
A detailed consultation takes place at our brand-new, configured, clinic offices with one of our specialists. During your consultation you will have time to discuss any skin related worries and concerns you have. The dermatologist will also take a detailed medical history, and perform a thorough physical examination. The dermatologist may then diagnose any conditions present, and suggest further treatment, or recommend further testing to determine the exact cause of your symptoms.
Aesthetic treatments
Aesthetic dermatology is the branch of dermatology which focuses on protecting, maintaining, and restoring skin health and appearance using medical treatments. Factors affecting our skin appearance include ageing, sun-exposure, smoking, environmental pollution and other intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Treatments at our center are delivered by our expert dermatologists and the health care professionals who work under the supervision of our dermatologists. We ensure that the treatments we offer are evidence-based. These treatments include PRP and microneedling for collagen stimulation, treatments for hyperhidrosis as well as advanced technology and injectable treatments for skin rejuvenation. Our specialists are happy to offer a detailed consultation and aesthetic facial analysis to identify areas of skin appearance that may be restored or optimized through non-surgical treatments. During your consultation, we will determine your goals and priorities, and form a treatment plan that you are happy with.

FAQs
How do I book an appointment?
You can call our call center and request a dermatology appointment leaving your information. A member of the dermatology team will call you in the next few hours to book you in for an appointment according to your request.
I have a mole that is changing - can I get an urgent appointment?
Yes. We have adopted an urgent pathway system, as per international guidelines where any suspicious new or changing lesions will be assessed within the next 15 days. We therefore have allocated appointments each week for this purpose. This is to optimise the earliest diagnosis of something suspicious on your skin.
Are dermatology services at the GMI in GESY?
Yes. Our dermatologists are part of the GESY and are therefore seeing patients and offer treatments that are offered in the GESY. However, a full spectrum of dermatology services are offered, including any private or aesthetic treatments that the GESY does not cover.
Such treatments are carried out at dedicated allocated time slots.
Can I request a specific aesthetic treatment before my first appointment?
Our dermatologists assess each patient on an individual basis. They discuss their wishes and expectations and offer advice on aesthetic treatments taking each patient’s profile into consideration. Photographs are taken and a solid treatment plan is formed and scheduled. The initial consultation is therefore an important part of your aesthetic treatment package.
