About Us

Precision Treatment. Human Care.

At the Department of Medical Oncology at the German Oncology Centre, we provide comprehensive, evidence-based systemic cancer care within a multidisciplinary environment.

We treat people – not just cancer.

Our team delivers personalised treatment plans tailored to each patient’s diagnosis, tumour biology, overall health and individual priorities. Every case is reviewed within structured Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings to ensure consensus-driven, internationally aligned decision-making.

A Message from the Director of Medical Oncology

Cancer care is one of the most complex areas of modern medicine. It requires scientific precision, structured decision-making, and above all, humanity.

At the Department of Medical Oncology, our commitment is to deliver evidence-based, personalised cancer treatment within a multidisciplinary framework that places the patient at the centre of every decision.

Each diagnosis represents not only a biological disease, but a person, a family and a unique life context.

Our responsibility is therefore twofold:
to offer the most appropriate contemporary therapy and to guide our patients through their journey with clarity, honesty and compassion.

Modern oncology evolves rapidly. Advances in molecular profiling, immunotherapy, targeted treatments and clinical research have transformed outcomes across many tumour types. As a department, we are committed to remaining aligned with international standards while continuously refining our local infrastructure, governance and collaborative pathways.

We believe that geography should not determine access to innovation. Patients in Cyprus deserve the same scientific rigour, multidisciplinary structure and access to evolving therapies as those treated in leading European and International Centres. Our department is therefore built upon three foundational pillars:

Clinical excellence
Precision medicine
Collaborative leadership

Structured Multidisciplinary Team meetings, transparent communication with referring physicians and close coordination with our surgical, radiation, radiology, pathology and supportive care colleagues form the backbone of our practice.

Our vision is clear:
To provide world-class oncology care in Cyprus – combining scientific rigour, innovation and deeply human medicine.

We are privileged to care for our patients and to work alongside dedicated colleagues who share the same ambition.

With respect and commitment,

Dr Valentinos Kounnis, MD MSc PhD FRCP
Consultant Medical Oncologist (CCT, RCP UK)
