German Prostate Cancer Center
About
As life expectancy continues to rise in the Western world, the incidence of prostate diseases has also increased. Today, nearly every man is likely to be affected by a prostate condition at some point in his life. These conditions can significantly impact quality of life and, in some cases, progress to aggressive prostate cancer.
Aggressive prostate cancer requires a multidisciplinary approach to ensure optimal treatment outcomes and to support quality of life during and after therapy. At the GMI Prostate Cancer Center, a team of internationally recognized specialists guides each patient through every step of their care — from initial diagnosis to treatment and long-term follow-up.
We do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach. Instead, we develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique tumor biology, personal preferences, and overall health status.
In alignment with our mission, “Compassion Drives Innovation,” the GMI team leads a globally recognized prostate cancer research program. Our objective is to translate cutting-edge scientific discoveries into clinical practice, offering our patients access to the most advanced diagnostic tools and therapies available.
Our clinicians are actively involved in shaping the future of prostate cancer care. They serve on international guideline committees and are widely regarded as thought leaders in the field.

Our team
A key element contributing to the success of the GMI Prostate Cancer Center is our comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment. Each patient is cared for by a dedicated team of highly specialized physicians who collaborate to determine and deliver the most effective, individualized treatment plan.
Our team includes medical oncologists, urologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and nuclear medicine specialists — all working in close coordination to ensure the highest standard of care. At the GMI Prostate Cancer Center, patients benefit from the convenience and efficiency of meeting with multiple specialists in a single visit, ensuring a seamless and well-integrated care experience.
Our services
At the GMI Prostate Cancer Center, treatment options are tailored to each patient based on a range of critical factors, including the stage at diagnosis or recurrence, specific molecular markers identified in tumor tissue, and the patient’s overall health status.
To ensure the most accurate diagnosis, our departments of Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Pathology employ the latest diagnostic technologies. Notably, the GMI Prostate Cancer Center houses the region’s only positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scanner, which is routinely used to assess disease spread with high precision. We utilize advanced imaging techniques, such as prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) PET imaging. In this process, a radiotracer—such as the state-of-the-art 18F-PSMA-1007—is administered intravenously and binds to PSMA proteins found on prostate cancer cells, allowing for highly targeted visualization of the tumor.
We offer a comprehensive range of treatment modalities, including high-precision radiation therapy, minimally invasive surgical procedures, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, and access to cutting-edge clinical trials. GMI is recognized as one of Europe’s leading centers in high-precision radiotherapy. Techniques such as high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) enable us to target the prostate and intraprostatic tumors with millimeter-level accuracy while sparing surrounding organs such as the rectum and bladder.
For patients with more advanced disease stages, we offer the innovative PSMA radioligand therapy—a promising treatment option currently transforming the care landscape for metastatic prostate cancer.
To ensure that every patient receives the most appropriate and effective treatment plan, our multidisciplinary team convenes weekly at the GMI Urologic Malignancies Tumor Board to review cases and make evidence-based decisions.
Self-Help and Patient Advocacy
At the GMI Prostate Cancer Center, we understand that receiving a diagnosis of cancer or another serious illness can be a life-altering experience. It is natural for patients and their loved ones to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or isolated—even with support from family and friends. These emotions are a normal part of adjusting to a difficult and unfamiliar situation.
Gaining a deeper understanding of prostate cancer and learning about the available treatment options can help ease uncertainty and foster a sense of control. Taking an active role in your treatment journey can be empowering and can lead to more confident, informed decisions.
Our dedicated patient support teams are here to guide and assist both patients and their families throughout every stage of their prostate cancer journey—from the first visit to the GMI Prostate Cancer Center through post-treatment care. We offer a variety of support services designed to improve emotional well-being, enhance quality of life, and, in some cases, even contribute to improved outcomes.
Support groups, psychological services, and patient advocacy initiatives can provide valuable tools for navigating treatment decisions and managing emotional challenges. For example, speaking with other men who have successfully undergone treatment—or those who have faced recurrence—can be a deeply reassuring and empowering experience.
Patient support resources available at GMI include:
