Iakovos Georgiou
Head of Plastic Surgery
After completing his medical studies at Charles University in Prague, best known as one of Europe’s oldest universities, Dr. Iakovos Georgiou embarked on his surgical training journey in Germany. Starting his basic surgical training in Hannover including the esteemed Hannover Medical School, a leading university hospital in Germany, he later moved to Berlin to begin his specialized residency in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, which he completed in Potsdam under the mentorship of Ass. Prof. Ghods. Special focus areas of Dr. Georgiou’s training included reconstructive microsurgery, aesthetic surgery, burn injury treatment, and notably, the diagnosis and management of lipedema.
Following the completion of his residency, Dr. Georgiou assumed the role of a senior consultant in Bad Belzig near Berlin. Here, he oversaw a comprehensive range of treatments including lipedema management, reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery, body contouring, post-weight loss skin excess removal, skin tumor procedures, and more. In early 2023, Dr. Georgiou returned to his home country of Cyprus to assume the role of Head of Plastic Surgery at the German Medical Institute in Limassol.
Dr. Georgiou’s contributions extend beyond clinical practice, evidenced by his publication record in peer-reviewed journals on a wide range of plastic surgery topics. He has been invited as a keynote speaker at various German and international conferences, sharing his expertise in the field. Further, Dr. Georgiou together with his team in Potsdam helped set up a channel for regular humanitarian missions in São Tomé and Príncipe, West Africa, aimed at providing plastic surgery interventions for children and adults with burn injuries, congenital hand deformities, keloids, and more.
