About
The PET/CT scan, which is offered exclusively and for the first time in the Republic of Cyprus, is a combination of Computerized Tomography (CT) Scan and Positron Emission Tomography (PET), which enables us to receive high quality and accurate images.
PET/CT is an imaging technic that combines the anatomical information coming from computed tomography (CT) with the metabolic activity of the imaged tissues and organs coming from positron emission tomography (PET. This nuclear medicine imaging method applies to Oncology, Cardiology and Neurology.
Different radiopharmaceuticals can be used according to the clinical question for each patient. Radiopharmaceuticals are substances able to be bound to specific organs or other tissues and molecules and they are used in nuclear medicine as radiotracers for the imaging and therapy of the patients.

General Electric IQ Discovery scanner
This is a hybrid imaging scanner that combines positron emission tomography (PET) and a 16-slices computed tomographer (CT540). The combination of these two entities, as well as the IQ technology of the PET, provide higher sensitivity and therefore image of better quality in shorter imaging time, lower radiation dose and the capability of whole-body imaging.
The necessary radioactive substances for imaging are produced within our Center in the listed system BG-75. Dose on Demand Biomarker Generator of ABT. Molecular Imaging, which consists of the following three subsystems.

Accelerator
It is a self-shielded circular proton accelerator of 7.5
Me, which irradiates into an Oxygen-18-enriched water target, turning it into a radioactive Fluoride-18.

Chemistry Production Module
The tracer molecule is radio-labelled for use in PET diagnostics as a radiopharmaceutical.

Radiopharmaceutical quality control
This is where automated quality control tests (QC Tests) are carried out, including High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), determination of endotoxin levels, as well as the identification/ validation of radiopharmaceutical identity using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and gamma-spectroscopy.
* All the above Installation is licensed and supervised by the national authority body of Cyprus.
It meets all safety standards and is shielded for emergencies.
