German Medical Institute and Nursing Students Join Forces for Modern Breast Cancer Care

An educational experience bringing future nurses closer to modern oncology care, interdisciplinary collaboration and the use of technology
The German Medical Institute welcomed 50 Nursing students on Friday, September 25, as part of an educational visit entitled “Modern Approaches to Breast Cancer Management.”
The visit was designed to provide students with a comprehensive overview of modern breast cancer care, connecting theoretical knowledge with clinical practice. At the same time, it highlighted the crucial role of nurses in patient care, as well as the importance of collaboration among different specialties and the use of technology in today’s healthcare environment.
The students were welcomed by Dr. Dr. Dr. Nikolaos Zamboglou, Professor of Radiation Oncology and Chief Executive Officer of the hospital.

Learning Through Clinical Experience
The scientific programme began with a presentation by Dr. Eleni Dimitriou, General Surgeon specialising in Breast Surgery, who presented a comprehensive approach to breast cancer management. Particular emphasis was also placed on the role of the nursing team.
Maria Frangou and Athena Socratous, Oncology Nurses, highlighted the contribution of nurses to holistic and personalised patient care, from diagnosis and treatment through to rehabilitation.
This was followed by a round-table discussion and a clinical case presentation, coordinated by Andreas Loizou, Deputy Director of Nursing Services, and Andreas Antrellis, Senior Head and Neck Surgery Nurse.
Through dialogue and the presentation of a real clinical case, the students had the opportunity to connect their academic training with everyday clinical practice and to gain a better understanding of the importance of collaboration among healthcare professionals.

Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Oncology Care
The programme also included a presentation on digital innovation and Artificial Intelligence in oncology care.
Elena Tofi, Software Operations Manager, and William De Doncker, Business Intelligence & Data Engineering Manager, presented the modern capabilities offered by technology in healthcare, highlighting its increasingly important role in supporting healthcare professionals and enhancing contemporary clinical practice.
In a statement, Professor Dr. Konstantinos Zamboglou, Clinical Director, said:
“The rapid developments in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, together with the continuous advancement of medical technology, require healthcare professionals with a high level of scientific expertise, up-to-date knowledge and a commitment to continuous development. At the German Medical Institute, education is not simply an additional activity. It is a strategic priority and a fundamental prerequisite for the quality of the services we provide. Particularly in the field of Nursing, we systematically invest in the continuous education and professional development of our staff, ensuring that they remain one step ahead and are able to respond with scientific competence, safety and a strong sense of responsibility to the demands of modern oncology care.”
Ms Marianna Hatziantoniou, Director of Human Resources, stated:
“Welcoming Nursing students from the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and giving them the opportunity to experience a real clinical environment is an important opportunity for them to gain first-hand insight into modern healthcare and to connect their university knowledge with clinical practice. Through such initiatives, we contribute to shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals and strengthen the connection between education and clinical practice. The German Medical Institute will always be a strong supporter in shaping a promising and secure future for the vital field of healthcare.”
From the Lecture Hall to the Real Clinical Environment
The educational experience continued with a tour of the facilities of the German Medical Institute. The students, divided into two groups, visited the Day Care Units 2 and the Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology Department.
Through direct exposure to the clinical environment, they became familiar with the operation of the departments and had the opportunity to observe first-hand the collaboration among different specialties and healthcare professionals.

Investing in the Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals
Connecting academic education with real-world clinical experience is an important part of preparing tomorrow’s healthcare professionals.
Through initiatives that combine scientific knowledge, practical experience, interdisciplinary collaboration and technology, the German Medical Institute creates opportunities for students to engage meaningfully with the realities of modern healthcare.
Introducing future nurses to the clinical environment and to contemporary therapeutic and technological approaches provides them with valuable skills for their professional development and contributes to shaping a new generation of healthcare professionals who will play an important role in delivering high-quality, comprehensive patient care.
